  6. Paddy Blended Irish Whiskey, County Cork

Paddy Blended Irish Whiskey, County Cork

First distilled in 1779, Paddy whiskey originally sold under the unlikely name “Cork Distilleries Company Old Irish Whiskey” until a young salesman by the name of Paddy Flaherty joined the company in 1882. Paddy was a larger than life character who became famous for his then daring innovation of sampling his potential customers, by buying a round of his whiskey in each pub he visited. Over time, Paddy became synonymous with the whiskey and publicans began writing to the distillery asking for another case of “Paddy’s whiskey.” The “Paddy Whiskey” name stuck and in 1912 the distillery owners bowed to public pressure and officially changed the name to “Paddy Irish Whiskey.” Distilled three times from the finest quality barley and water from the East Cork countryside, Paddy is matured for up to seven years in dark aromatic warehouses. Paddy is an exceptionally mellow whiskey, distinguished by the generous proportion of single malt in its blend. Its relatively low pot-still content and high proportion of malt whiskey ensure Paddy is... “one of the softest of all Ireland’s whiskeys” – Jim Murray, International Whiskey Connoisseur Learn More

  10. Redbreast 'Lustau Edition' Sherry Finish Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, County Cork

Redbreast 'Lustau Edition' Sherry Finish Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, County Cork

The new Redbreast is a permanent addition to its range of Single Pot Still Irish Whiskeys. Initially aged for nine to twelve years in a combination of former Bourbon barrels and barrels which previously held Oloroso Sherry, Redbreast Lustau Edition spends an additional year in Spanish oak barrels seasoned with Lustau Oloroso. This further step provides a unique personality, marked by notes of red fruit, prunes, marzipan, a creamy mouthfeel and a long, sweet finish. Redbreast Lustau Edition is the result of a long-standing partnership between Lustau Bodegas and Irish Distillers, a Pernod Ricard Group company and the world’s leading Irish Whiskey producer. The new whiskey is the result of several years’ work by Billy Leighton, Master Blender at Irish Distillers, and the recently deceased Manuel Lozano, the winemaker who earned Lustau its international prestige in the last two decades. The sherry sculpts the whiskey, giving it definition and producing a clean, refined elegance. The nose is intensely fragrant, bursting with fat dates and squidgy prunes, red apple and Battenburg cake. It’s fruity, yet delectably bone dry with oak, walnut, and spices. In the mouth, there are red berry fruits, apples, and marzipan, and the whiskey delivers a creamy yet oily consistency with a clean, sweet oloroso finish. —Jonny McCormick Whiskey Advocate Irish Whiskey of the Year 2016 Learn More
