  1. Chateau Coutet, Barsac 2011

    Chateau Coutet, Barsac 2011

93 points Wine Advocate - Tasted blind at the Sauternes 2011 horizontal tasting. The 2011 Château Coutet has a distinctive but attractive bouquet: clear honey, rosewater, peach and just a touch of barley sugar that pins it down to Barsac. The palate is medium-bodied and viscous in texture. There is more harmony here than the nose, nicely understated with quince and barley sugar, dovetailing into an elegant finish. I would prefer just a touch more weight and persistence but otherwise this is a fine Sauternes even if it does not quite meet my expectations from barrel, primarily since it is just missing Coutet's usual razor-sharp acidity that imparts such electricity into its finest vintages. Nevertheless, this will provide much pleasure over the next two or three decades. Learn More

  2. Chateau Guiraud 'Le G de Chateau Guiraud' Blanc Sec 2015

Chateau Guiraud 'Le G de Chateau Guiraud' Blanc Sec 2015

89-91 points Wine AdvocateThe 2015 G de Château Guiraud offers nectarine, pithy fruit on the nose that needs just a little more delineation. The palate is crisp and fresh with plenty of citrus fruit, dried pineapple and green apples on the energetic finish. Give this a year once in bottle and you'll have a great G de Guiraud. Learn More

  5. Rieussec Sauternes 2010

    Rieussec Sauternes 2010

The 2010 Rieussec was missing a little intellect when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle it has become a contender for the finest Sauternes of the vintage. It is blessed with a pure and lifted bouquet with ripe peach, nectarine and honey, hints of shaved ginger poke their head above the surface with aeration. It is very subtle. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, perfectly judged acidity and convincing harmony. This is a sophisticated Sauternes with superb mineralite and outstanding persistency. I will confess that I pinned this as “Yquem” and was both shocked and pleased when its identity was revealed. Go buy. Drink 2016-2035. Learn More
