The Camfield 2013 Red Wine is a blend of predominantly Sangiovese and some Shiraz. Sangiovese is a grape with roots in Tuscany, yet has a long history of being made in Australia. This Red Wine offers that classic mid weight profile with black cherries, cocoa and fine grained tannins that gives the wine length. Enjoy this with a plate of antipasto or richer red meat dishes like ragu or slow cooked roasts.
The Clone that the Camfield Family selected to produce their Red Wine, is the Sangiovese clone known as the Brunello di Montalcino clone. Brunello di Montalcino is known in Tuscany, Italy, as the premier Sangiovese grape used exclusively to produce their famous Super Tuscan wines. Sangiovese vines are known for producing very large bunches, with large berries, often making for a thin watery wine, however the Brunello di Montalcino, through hard work in the vineyard, will product very small bunches with very small berries, and as such is able to produce super concentrated flavoursome wines.
The 2013 Red wine, is a blend consisting of predominantly Sangiovese wine, and a small amount of the Camfield 2013 Shiraz. The Sangiovese is matured in French oak barrels, consisting of around 30% new barrels, 35% once used barrels, and 35% older barrels used for between 2 and 3 previous vintages. The Sangiovese is matured in these barrels for 12 months, prior to blending with the Shiraz, the blend is then matured for a further 3 months in barrels prior to bottling. Once the wines were bottled they have been stored for at least 6 months before being introduced to the market.
