  4. Alejandro Fernandez Dehesa La Granja Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon 2008

Alejandro Fernandez Dehesa La Granja Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon 2008

91 points VinousDeep ruby. A complex, perfumed bouquet evokes dark berries, cola, smoked meat and mint. Supple and expansive on the palate, offering gently sweet blackberry and cherry-cola flavors that are firmed and lifted by juicy acidity. The smoky note repeats on the finish, which hangs on with very good tenacity and a whisper of fine-grained tannins. A fine effort for the vintage and delicious right now. Learn More

  5. Alejandro Fernandez Tinto Pesquera Reserva Ribera del Duero 2012

Alejandro Fernandez Tinto Pesquera Reserva Ribera del Duero 2012

Vivid ruby-red. Smoke-accented cherry and black raspberry and floral pastille scents, with notes of vanilla, coconut and pipe tobacco adding complexity. Plush and broad on the palate, offering dark berry liqueur, chewing tobacco and mocha flavors and a sweet, repeating suggestion of coconut. Ripe yet lively wine with hints of smoked meat, candied flowers and licorice joining dark fruit on a very long, gently tannic finish. While this wine is approachable now, I'd hold off on opening it as this bottling has a fine track record for aging. Learn More

  6. Alto Moncayo Campo de Borja 2014

Alto Moncayo Campo de Borja 2014

Alto Moncayo Moncayo has returned! The big, bad, most delicious hombre in Campo de Borja is clearing the aisle of all of the weak insipid, watered down wines that are pretenders to the throne. True to its nature the 2014 Alto Moncayo Moncayo is a super sexy, up front, lavish, concentrated, dense, full bodied, opulent, super intense offering that is sure to please. If you’re looking for a light, see through, dainty wine; this ain’t it! Still one of Spain’s finest if not the world’s finest Grenache’s it is outstanding and still a terrific bargain. Aromas of blackberry bramble, flowers, ground black pepper, black cherry liqueur, black raspberries, fresh brewed espresso, sea salt, cola, soy and mulberry, copious blue and black stone fruit, balsamic notes and dark chocolate form the core of an aromatic ambrosia that translates into gorgeously seductive flavors in your mouth. While the texture this vintage isn’t as weighty as some past vintages it is no less intense, opulent, and engaging. The flavors of the 2014 Alto Moncayo Moncayo are still palate coating offering loads of crushed minerals, hints of citrus zest verve, accompanied by explosive notes of kirsch liqueur, lavender, crushed spring flowers, dark chocolate, espresso, and a mélange of mixed berries and cola. The 2014 Alto Moncayo offers a smooth, subtle, sophisticated elegance rarely seen in wines at this price point. This is probably the most elegant balanced Alto Moncayo that I have tasted. I could give you a pages long dissertation on how the wine is made, the soil composition, the micro climates and all that but I won’t! What I will tell you is that once again the Alto Moncayo is kicking bottles and taking names. It is utterly delicious and one of the best bottles in this price range in the world. Chris Ringland has produced another winner for us. As always, this is a small production allocated wine that will disappear quickly. Don’t miss out on yours or all you’ll be able to do is read about it. Learn More

  8. Alvaro Palacios 'Les Terrasses' Velles Vinyes, Priorat DOCa 2016

Alvaro Palacios 'Les Terrasses' Velles Vinyes, Priorat DOCa 2016

    92 -94 Points Wine Advocate
Garnacha and Carinena blend 2016 Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes has vibrant acidity in a warm year when ripening stopped as the vines blocked and stopped producing sugar and maintained the acidity. The grapes were small because the year had also been very dry. It's juicy and with good ripeness and some dusty tannins, reminiscent of the dusty roads among the vineyards Priorat along with that decomposed slate. Learn More

  9. Alvaro Palacios Camins del Priorat 2015

Alvaro Palacios Camins del Priorat 2015

92 points Vinous - (fermented in stainless steel and concrete tanks and aged for eight months in French oak casks of varying size): Brilliant ruby. Intense, spice-accented, ripe black and blue fruits, violets and smoky, mineral aromas build in the glass. The sweet, expansive palate reveals concentrated blueberry and boysenberry flavors that tighten up slowly on the back half. The finish clings with excellent tenacity, providing a framework for the wine's exuberant dark fruit. -- Josh Raynolds Learn More
